Eveline Kolijn resides in Calgary, Canada. Growing up in the Caribbean, she has experienced the beauty and demise of coral reefs. This influenced her interest in the connections between art, science, the environment, and climate change. Eveline received an MA in cultural anthropology from Leiden University in the Netherlands in 1986 and a BFA from the AUArts in Calgary in 2008, including the Governor General’s Award for academic achievement. She has participated in national and international exhibitions, residencies, and public art projects. She has been published in scientific publications. She is an Ambassador of the Energy Futures Lab, a nonprofit organization powered by Generate Canada. In 2019, she received the AUArts Alumni Legacy Award. In her position as Ambassador, she promotes energy literacy and environmental awareness. She curated and edited their fine arts “Energy Futures portfolio” and a book, “Reimagining Fire; the Future of Energy”, with 20 artists, 20 writers and 20 energy experts. This book won the 2024 Regional Book of the Year award, from the Alberta Publishers Association (BPAA). In 2024, she joined the Coral Reef Ark project from SDSU in San Diego, which researches coral preservation and survival.

We gratefully acknowledge the original territories of the Siksikáwa, Îyârhe Nakodabi, and Tsuut’ina Dene, of Mohkínstsisakápiyoyis, Wincheesh-pah, Kootsisáw, or the colonized lands which many now refer to as Calgary, where the Energy Futures Lab is headquartered. These Lands are also home to members of the Métis Nation of Alberta under the Otipemisiwak Métis Government — District 4 & 5, whose peoples have deep relationships with the land. This reminds all of us to walk in a good way and remember our commitments to Indigenous Peoples.
